Chili Cookoff
Hello again, my good friends. It's been a while since I updated this journal, hasn't it?
Well, I'll start off by saying that I'm in a college jazz band, and that we played at a chili cookoff tonight. The chili cookoff was in memory of Adrian, a band buddy of mine who died in a car accident a few years ago. She was a splendid artist, a terrific percussionist, and a wonderful friend. The whole event was to support the fine arts committee of my high school as well as her family.
Anyway, I came in around 5 P.M. ; I was one of the first people in my band to come to the school. I spent some time with some of the other members (some of which went to high school with me), a few friends of mine, and some of my family members. I didn't start warming up until about 8 minutes before we were supposed to perform, which was at 6 P.M. However, some of the members didn't arrive until just before we were supposed to perform.
We played five songs in about 30 minutes, with some of songs being Chuck Mangione's "Bellavia," and Nancy Hamilton's "How High The Moon." The band did a wonderful job, and everybody commented on how great of a job we did.
After playing some jazz music, some of the members and I went ahead to eat some chili as well as spend time with our buddies. After that, I went into the auditorium to watch some other performances, which included a jazz trio (in which one of the students played with later in the group's performance), a belly dancing performance, and to finish it off, a cadence from the current high school drum line.
I had a wonderful time, and I will gladly play more music with the jazz band.
By the way, the news crew came by, and they did a close up of me.
I'll will update more often,
Ky-Guy~
